Errol Spence Jr has declared himself No 1 contender to Kell Brook's IBF crown after stopping Chris Algieri in five rounds in Brooklyn on Saturday night.

Spence, who in the build-up to the fight told Sky Sports he would be happy to fight Brook in the UK, succeeded where Manny Pacquiao and Amir Khan failed by becoming the first man to stop Algieri.

The undefeated American welterweight claimed his 20th straight win with his seventh straight knockout and 17th overall in the top of the bill clash at the Barclays Center.

"I'm the No1 contender for Kell Brook," said Spence. "Kell Brook knows what time it is. We got to get in the ring and fight.

"I did something Manny Pacquiao couldn't do, nor Amir Khan. That shows where I'm at in the welterweight division.

"Everyone wanted to see what I could do against a proven fighter and I blew him out of the water."

Former WBO champion Algieri, who went the distance with both Khan and Pacquiao but was knocked down six times by the latter, was floored twice by Spence in a one-sided fight.

"He brought some good stuff tonight," Algieri admitted. "He stayed composed and that was a big part of it."

Brook has made three mandatory defences of his title since defeating Shawn Porter on points in August 2014.

The undefeated Sheffield star is trying to secure a big name for his next bout with Danny Garcia and Adrien Broner being mentioned but American southpaw Spence could be in pole position due to him being willing to fight in the UK.
