Enzo Maccarinelli's career may be over after he was knocked out in the first round of his European cruiserweight title fight with Dmytro Kucher at London's York Hall.

Maccarinelli was hoping to set up another world title shot but instead he suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of the Ukrainian.

Having been rocked by a left-hand, Maccarinelli was caught by another seconds later, and this time it sent him crashing to the canvas.

The 35-year-old Welshman eventually got to his feet but referee Giuseppe Quartarone decided he was in no state to continue and waved the fight off, after two minutes and 48 seconds.

Former world champion Maccarinelli had done much to revive his career since he began working with trainer Gary Lockett, having suffered a run of four stoppage defeats in eight fights, starting with a 2008 loss to David Haye.
