Chris Eubank will be offered the chance to take part in a WBA tournament which would see the winner crowned as the organisation's No 1 middleweight champion.

The British champion will be watching with interest as Kell Brook steps up to his division for an audacious world title fight with Gennady Golovkin at The O2, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

Eubank Jr will defend his belt against Tommy Langford after failing to agree a fight with Golovkin, but WBA president Gilberto Mendoza could offer the 26-year-old another route to a world title shot in a proposed 'box-off'.

Golovkin, the WBA 'super' champion, will be ordered to take part in the tournament if he defeats Brook next weekend, and his likely opponent is WBA 'regular' champion Daniel Jacobs, who firstly defends the belt against Sergio Mora on September 9.

Eubank Jr would face the winner if he comes through a proposed fight with Alfonso Blanco, who holds the Brighton boxer's old WBA interim title.

"I do respect Chris Eubank, who was also an interim champion," Mendoza told Sky Sports. "I know Blanco is scheduled to fight soon, but it hasn't been announced yet.

We might have a special box-off to have only one world champion and that could involve Eubank, because he's the No 2 right now.

"What is currently happening in the middleweights is that 'Triple G', if he wins the fight against Brook, he has to defend his title immediately with Daniel Jacobs.

The California-based Blanco defeated Sergey Khomitsky to claim the interim title and the Venezuelan will make one defence before taking on Eubank Jr.

Mendoza said: "Win that fight and I will order Blanco to defend against Eubank, and the winner of Golovkin-Jacobs will have to face the winner of Blanco and Eubank.

"I'm doing a box-off definitely there in this division. We would like to clear it up, like all of the rest."
