Everton fan Bellew will climb into the ring as world champion for the first time in his career after stopping Ilunga Makabu in three rounds at his beloved Goodison Park to win the vacant title in May.

"I've opened my mouth, I've done what I said over the years, but ultimately I've always got in the ring and tried to back it up as best as I can. The target is on my back now, firmly set there so I have to just go out there and show what I'm about," he said.

"I don't think you're ever going to find someone with my mentality struggling to get up for fights. I understand what's at stake every time I step in that ring and believe you me - I'll show what's at stake Saturday night."

The American challenger has racked up five more wins and three more knockouts in a career which is four years longer than Bellew's, but the Liverpudlian has age on his side and believes he will be too strong for the challenger.

"I'm just going to pulverise him with everything, he's in for a hiding," vowed the 33-year-old champion.

"As good as he is - and he is good, he's been ranked now for many, many years - I'll be honest, his mouth got him the fight, and now his mouth has stopped only the harsh realities remain in front of him.
