Tony Bellew tells Adam Smith that he doubts BJ Flores will have the same desire to win as he makes his first World Cruiserweight title defence in Liverpool

Tony Bellew has questioned whether BJ Flores' desire to win their WBC cruiserweight world title fight matches his own.

Bellew (27-2-1-KO17) makes the first defence of the championship he won by beating Ilunga Makabu at Goodison Park in May when he faces Flores at Liverpool's Echo Arena live on Sky Sports 2 on Saturday.

The pair have been involved in a war of words in the build-up to the fight, although Flores cut a focused figure when asked for his pre-match thoughts this week.

Bellew, too, has been more reserved in fight week, and even offered a complimentary assessment of his San Francisco-born opponent's skills.

"They say it's harder to keep a title than it is to win it and this will definitely be a test," the 33-year-old told Sky Sports News HQ.

"He [Flores] has only lost to credible opponents and world-class guys and we will find out how good I am on Saturday night.

"The talking has to stop at some stage and for me it stopped the minute the fight was made. All I ever do is speak my mind and tell the truth and I know that an awful lot of people don't like that.

English boxer Bellew says he is fired up for his upcoming fight against BJ Flores, live on Sky Sports

"Does he want it as much as me? Will he go as far as I will? I've showed it time and time again; I've got up off the floor from face-first knockdowns and I just get up and fight.

"There's something inside me that never knows when enough's enough and that scares me. I never know when I've had enough and when it's time to stop."
