Miguel Cotto and Freddie Roach want a Saul Alvarez rematch

Miguel Cotto would like his farewell fight to be a rematch with Saul Alvarez.

The Puerto Rican future Hall of Famer will retire at the end of the year, but he and trainer Freddie Roach both believe they can avenge the loss to 'Canelo'.

Cotto (40-5-KO33) is taking on James Kirkland in Frisco, Texas, on February 25, returning to the ring 13 months after losing to Alvarez (48-1-1-KO34) for the vacant WBC middleweight world title, but even though he suffered a wide points defeat - 110-118, 109-119 and 111-117 - he still believes he would win the rematch.

"I'm here for the best fights and the best fighters out there, so if Canelo Alvarez wants to fight to erase what happened in November of 2015, they know where to find me,"

Roach teamed up with Cotto back in 2013 and has been behind the 36-year-old's middleweight success that saw him win titles at four different weights.

The trainer will soon be back with Manny Pacquiao as he closes in on retirement, but is adamant that Cotto should still be the WBC title holder.

"Canelo is a good fighter. He was a lot bigger than my guy was. I think he was like 180lbs but I thought my guy won.

"I was surprised with the scores. I hope we get that fight because I think Cotto can beat him."
