WBC, IBF, and IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin is targeting a September showdown with Mexican WBO light middleweight title holder Canelo Alvarez.

Golovkin next faces American Daniel Jacobs in Madison Square Garden on Saturday in a middleweight unification bout, which GGG has said is a chance to secure a match-up with Alvarez.

"Yes of course, 100 per cent [his fight with Jacobs can secure a bout with Alvarez]," Golovkin told Sky Sports News HQ.

"Right now my focus is on Daniel Jacobs because he's a very serious guy, a world champion, this is a unification fight.

"Next step I'm ready for anybody, Canelo Alvarez or anyone it doesn't matter for me.

"Jacobs has a big boxing IQ, he's number two in the middleweight division. It's very important who's number one and this fight will show who is best.

"I'm going to bring an amazing show."
