Liam Walsh was unsuccessful in his bid to become IBF super-featherweight champion after being stopped in three rounds by Gervonta Davis.

Floyd Mayweather protege Davis needed three attempts to make the weight on Friday but any concerns about his conditioning were dispelled early on as the Baltimore boxer displayed lightning hand speed in the opening rounds.

Davis enjoyed success with a number of clean punches landed in the second and a huge left hand from the 22-year-old in the third left Walsh on the canvas.

Davis was urged by his corner to pounce on the stricken Cromer man and referee Michael Alexander was forced to bring the contest to a halt after a flurry of powerful left hooks from the American.

It was the first defeat of Walsh's career (21-1-KO14), while Davis extended his perfect record to 18-0-(17KO).

But there was better news for Liam's twin brother Ryan, who added the WBO Intercontinental strap to his British featherweight title after an 11th round stoppage win over Marco McCullough.

There was also a third stoppage victory from three for promising heavyweight Daniel Dubois, 19, who knocked out David Howe in only 40 seconds with an explosive right hand.
