Floyd Mayweather Jr is determined to cement his own legacy in boxing as ‘the best ever’ fighter in the history of the sport.

Mayweather is currently training to face welterweight rival Manny Pacquiao on May 2 in an eagerly-awaited showdown that has been over five years in the making.

The winner is likely to claim bragging rights as the best pound-for-pound fighter on the planet but the undefeated American wants a more permanent moniker in a similar fashion to Muhammad Ali.

Former heavyweight champion Ali earned the nickname “The Greatest”, or GOAT – Greatest Of All Time - for his exploits inside the ring and modest Mayweather has adopted his own acronym.

The five-weight champion, who is two wins short of equalling Rocky Marciano’s professional record of 49-0 wins, wants to be remembered by three initials and took to social media to explain why.

“T.B.E. stands for, the best ever,” said Mayweather in his latest post on Facebook. “I want to leave my own mark in the sport of boxing.

“'No different from how Ali was known as the greatest. When someone says - the best ever - the first person I want them people to think about is Floyd Mayweather.”
