Carl Froch on David Haye's comeback and a possible showdown with Anthony Joshua

Carl Froch wants to see Anthony Joshua and David Haye fight but has warned them both to wait.

Former heavyweight world champion Haye announced his return to the ring against Mark de Mori on January 16 and has already hinted he wants to fight the Olympic champion.

Joshua will take on bitter rival Dillian Whyte for the British heavyweight title, live on Sky Sports Box Office on December 12, and Froch believes the two Londoners will eventually fight.

I don't think it's a sensible fight at this stage, for both of them actually.

But when asked if he wanted to see it happen, the former super-middleweight star had some words of warning for both fighters.

"Definitely," he told Sky Sports News HQ. "But that's 12 to 18 months down the line - as long as Joshua is looked after correctly.

"I don't think it's a sensible fight at this stage of their career, for both of them actually. He has got to take care of Dillian Whyte in a couple of weeks and following that, get a couple of defences of the British title in before stepping up."

"Don't forget David Haye, regardless how long he's been out for, is still a world-class operator and Joshua isn't quite there yet. But I am confident he will get there."

Froch, who will be working for Sky Sports Box Office for Wladimir Klitschko vs Tyson Fury on Saturday, made it clear that the returning heavyweight is likely to get back to the very top again.

"There's no doubt David Haye is a really exciting addition to the heavyweight division and he is certainly a formidable force in the division," he said.

David Haye says Tyson Fury has no more than a puncher's chance of beating Wladimir Klitschko

"I know he fell short against Klitschko, maybe because he got the tactics wrong. But he was almost a foot shorter and it was a tough task for him to do anything."

Wladimir Klitschko vs Tyson Fury, exclusively live on Sky Sports Box Office on November 28, is now available to order via your Sky remote, phone and online.
