Carl Froch has given his response to Mikkel Kessler's surprise comeback and admits the return of his former opponent has given him something to think about...

I've always said fighters should stay retired but I've got to be honest, this has really got me thinking!

It is 1-1 of course and if anything is going to get me going again - it is a decider with Mikkel Kessler.

He said he'd have it on an island, but of course I am retired... for now.

There was a few things flying around Twitter after people saw me sparring up in Sheffield yesterday, so it was not a huge surprise when this came out.

And as I've always said and will say again, I would rather see fighters keep away - especially after almost four years away - but looking at it, Kessler might be the best super-middleweight to do it.

Speed is the first thing that goes, so someone like Joe Calzaghe won't be making a comeback, but because Kessler was never quick and certainly didn't have fast hands, maybe he has a chance.

Does he have a chance of making a dent in the current division? Well, maybe. If he was at his peak of course, definitely, but because he loves nothing but a fight, he could cause a stir.

Mikkel Kessler is making a comeback, but who can forget the defining fights in his career

Not wanting to disrespect the current super-middleweight division, he would make things extremely difficult for any of them, James DeGale, Callum Smith and George Groves included.

I am like any other retired fighter, I think the current division is not as good as it was when me and Kessler were in our prime.

Of course we need to see what shape Kessler is in. We don't know what his motivation is - and I am sure you all have your own opinion on that - but this has really got me thinking.

Kessler's coming back at 168lbs though. Now if he were to do it at light-heavyweight, maybe I would accommodate him. Who knows? Even I don't at the moment...
