England batsman James Taylor says Eoin Morgan's appointment as one-day captain will see the side play in a more adventurous style as the World Cup nears.

Morgan replaced Alistair Cook in the role in December last year, but the 28-year-old will have only the triangular series against Australia and India in which to make his mark as a skipper before the World Cup gets under way on February 14.

"It's an exciting time for England under Morgs, it's a new era," said Taylor.

James Taylor is looking forward to a 'new era' for the England team after they had their first training session since Eoin Morgan was named captain

"We're all looking forward to playing under him. I know the kind of guy he is, he's a strong guy and I'm sure he'll be a strong leader too.

"He'll be very similar to the way he bats: exciting and aggressive. I have played under him in a couple of ODIs against Ireland and he's a great captain."

England's last one-day series victory came against West Indies in March 2014, and comprehensive defeats at the hands of India and Sri Lanka – with Cook struggling for form with the bat – proved the final straw for England's selectors.

It was a tough call but we've got to move on. It's something we can't dwell on too much. You're judged on performances and that's what happened in the end with Alastair.

But Taylor said the team could not afford to look back or to spend too much time feeling sorry for Cook, who retains the Test captaincy.

"Ultimately we're all judged on performances and winning games and that's what we're aiming to do.

"We're looking to get a bit of rhythm and form in the Tri-Series then in the World Cup who knows what we could do?"

Sky Sports News HQ's James Cole reports from England's net session in Canberra as Eoin Morgan's side prepare for the Tri-series against Australia and India

Taylor, who has six ODI caps, made a good impression on the tour of Sri Lanka despite England's 5-2 series defeat but has still to cement a place in the side.

Cook's departure from the squad means a shake-up at the top of the England batting order is inevitable, but Taylor said he was happy to bat anywhere.

"Hopefully it does open up a spot for me to play but it's up to me to take the opportunity if it does appear," said the 25-year-old.

"I don't know where I'll be batting in the side, I'm just looking to get in the team. If it's in the middle order or at number three I'm not really fussed as long as I'm playing.

"I had a brief little taster in Sri Lanka and hopefully I can go one step further to cementing my spot in Australia."
