History was made at Trent Bridge as England shattered record after record

Hales got the show on the road, biding his time to strike the first four sixes of the match - the first off Hasan Ali bringing up England's fifty in the eighth over.

Mohammad Nawaz disappeared over long on before skipper Azhar Ali, in an over costing 20, went the distance over mid-wicket and even Yasir Shah wasn't spared from the assault.

Nawaz it was, though, who helped rattle up the six count by going for three in an over - Buttler depositing him over the rope for successive maximums before skipper Morgan unleashed a mighty blow in the same over high into the stands over long on.

Buttler powered onto England's fastest ever ODI fifty off just 22 balls by muscling Shoaib Malik for three successive sixes in a devastating 42nd over.

That was the only six of the last five of the innings not to come of Wahab's bowling - the seamer ending up with figures of 0-110, the second-worst in ODI history.

Pakistan struck five sixes in their reply - four of them coming from an unlikely source in last man Mohammad Amir, whose 58 was the highest score by a number 11 in ODIs.
