ECB yet to discuss disciplinary action against Ben Stokes

The England and Wales Cricket Board have yet to meet to discuss disciplinary action against Ben Stokes, Sky sources understand.

England all-rounder Stokes was arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm after an incident in Bristol in the early hours of Monday morning.

Video footage emerged on Wednesday night allegedly showing Stokes involved in a brawl outside a nightclub. The 26-year-old was released without charge while inquiries continue.

A statement from Avon and Somerset Police said: "The disorder which occurred on Queens Road, Clifton, at around 2.35am on Monday continues to be investigated by officers.

Jane Dougall has the latest news following Ben Stokes' arrest. The all-rounder was released without charge

"A 26-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and was later released under investigation.

"Anyone who has not yet spoken to police who witnessed any part of the incident, or who captured any footage of it, is asked to call Investigations on 101 providing the call handler with the reference number 5217218578."

An ECB source told Sky Sports News that "the kind of behaviour we saw on this video is exactly the opposite of the image the ECB is trying to build".

Andrew Strauss revealed on Wednesday that disciplinary proceedings were already underway. The video footage has been reviewed at the highest levels of the organisation.

"We have seen this footage for the first time tonight [Wednesday] - when posted by The Sun," an ECB spokesman said.

"There is an ongoing police investigation, which will look at all available evidence, and we do have to respect that process."

Actual bodily harm carries a maximum sentence of five years and/or a fine, depending on the seriousness of the offence.
