James Vince and Mark Stoneman look set to keep their places in the side after head coach Trevor Bayliss said the pair deserved "another couple of games".

Vince and Stoneman struggled in England's 4-0 Ashes series defeat in Australia, with both averaging in the mid-twenties and scoring just four half-centuries between them.

England play New Zealand across March and April in a two-Test series with the squad due to be announced on Wednesday.

"It gets down to when is the time to move on and personally I think people like Stoneman and Vince probably get another couple of games to show us what they've got," Bayliss said.

"I think at times during this series against what is probably close to the best bowling attack in the world in their home conditions, they have shown they can play a bit.

"I think they have done enough without anyone really pushing them from behind and they probably deserve another opportunity."

Vince, in particular, has come in for criticism after he was repeatedly caught out playing at wide balls outside his off-stump.

Bayliss acknowledged Vince's need to improve, saying: "We have all seen it... he's looked as comfortable as anyone in the runs he has scored here but just makes a mistake and gets out.

"They have been similar each time and that frustrates him more than any of us. That is something he has to work on."

Bayliss announced on Tuesday he would step down from his role when his contract expires in September 2019, but he said he was willing to blood youngsters before he departs so as he can leave England in as healthy a state as possible.

"It has never been about me," Bayliss added. "It is about the team you are working for and making them as good as possible in the future.

"If in four years' time the away Ashes series is our holy grail then you are better off making some changes well in advance and giving some of those guys time to bed themselves into the team rather than waiting a couple of years and giving them 12 months' experience.

"If that means we happen to lose one or two series because of that experience, that's what we've got to put up with."
