Ian Ward gives David Lloyd and Sir Ian Botham the task of picking their best overseas XI in county cricket - with input from Michael Atherton and stats guru Benedict Bermange

It is 50 years since overseas players were first introduced to county cricket and to mark the occasion Sir Ian Botham and David 'Bumble' Lloyd picked their all-time XIs.

There were stars aplenty to choose from with that only criteria being that they must have played at least three seasons in England.

Bumble's first XI

Gordon Greenidge, Barry Richards, Viv Richards, Clive Lloyd (c), Darren Lehmann, Garry Sobers, Farokh Engineer (wk), Wasim Akram, Malcolm Marshall, Saqlain Mushtaq, Waqar Younis.

Beefy's XI

Gordon Greenidge, Barry Richards, Viv Richards, Javed Miandad, Clive Lloyd, Garry Sobers, Farokh Engineer (wk), Shane Warne, Malcolm Marshall, Andy Roberts, Joel Garner.

Michael Atherton and Sky Sports statistician Benedict Bermange were on hand to offer their input and provide numbers but it was up to Beefy and Bumble to select the sides.

There was plenty of agreement but, as you'd expect, just as much disagreement and heated debate over numerous positions with Athers particularly bemused by the exclusion of Richard Hadlee in either side.

The New Zealand great did make it into Bumble's second XI, a formidable side in its own right, but would that team beat his first XI? Benedict put it through a simulator to find out...

Bumble's second XI

Glenn Turner, Desmond Haynes, Zaheer Abbas, Mark Waugh, Mike Hussey, Mike Procter (c), Richard Hadlee, Deryck Murray (wk), Mushtaq Ahmed, Sylvester Clarke, Courtney Walsh.
