SCORECARD | AS IT HAPPENED

Ali's 5-63 ensured India were bowled out for 273 in reply to England's 246 as the tourists earned a 27-run lead on first innings in the fourth Test at Ageas Bowl, principally due to Pujara's unbeaten 132.

Other notables were Virat Kohli topping 6,000 Test runs - he is the second-fastest Indian, after Sunil Gavaskar, to do so - Rishabh Pant recording a 29-ball duck and Stuart Broad picking up both India openers.

England cut their arrears to 21 by stumps as out-of-form openers Alastair Cook (2no) and Keaton Jennings (4no) came through three overs unscathed - the home side closing on 6-0 in Southampton.
