Vaughan still hopeful for team-mate
England captain Michael Vaughan expects Marcus Trescothick to return to international cricket in the future.
Trescothick ruled himself out of England's winter programme on Wednesday due to his ongoing recovery from a stress-related illness.
The Somerset opener has not featured at international level since the same illness caused him to return home early from the Ashes tour last November.
"He's not ready at the minute and he's got to have a bit more time and hopefully that time will get him in the right frame of mind and get his body right to make sure he will play again," said Vaughan.
"It can't have been easy for him to say he's not going to tour with England because I know he's desperate to get out there and play.
"I think by making this decision it could give him a chance of playing again. The last thing I wanted was for him to come out and play too soon because I thought that could be the end of him."
Denied
Vaughan was speaking on Thursday ahead of the second Test against India at Trent Bridge, a day in which the England squad were forced to practice indoors due to the inclement weather.
England were denied victory in the first Test of the series at Lord's by poor weather as India finished one wicket away from defeat at 282-9, chasing an unlikely 380.
"It was a very impressive display from all the guys who played at Lord's," said Vaughan.
On the weather-hampered build-up to the second Test, he added: "Yesterday was a slight disappointment because of the weather, but I don't mind having an extra day of relaxing when you have back-to-back games.
"Today we had a real focus to our session. You can never really tell how you're going to pitch up but you get a good vibe that we're a good mind and spirit going into tomorrow's game."
