Former England captain Charlotte Edwards is looking towards the future and has revealed her aspirations to become a coach.

The 36-year-old announced last week that she was retiring from international cricket to end a magnificent 20-year England career, although she insists she still has a "hunger" to play the game.

Edwards made her international debut at 16 - making her the youngest woman to play for England at the time - and first captained England in 2005 before going on to lead her country a record 220 times.

"Coaching is something I'm interested in," Edwards told Sportswomen on Sky Sports News HQ. "Anyone who knows me knows I'm hugely passionate about the game. I want to help where I can if there's some opportunity to do some coaching.

"But there's a real hunger to keep on playing. I'm in the Kia Super League with the Southern Vipers and hopefully I'm out to the Big Bash [in Australia] this winter."

Despite quitting, Edwards is still keeping an interest in the England team and was shocked by her former team-mate Sarah Taylor's decision to take a break.

"It's taken me by surprise," she said. "I don't know what the reasons are, but I wish her well and the team well for the summer.

"They [England] have a massive summer against Pakistan and I will be closely following them. Hopefully there will be lots of opportunity for the batters."

England's new era without Edwards will begin with the home series against Pakistan which starts with a one-day international at Grace Road in Leicester on June 20.

They will be fighting to improve their standing in the ICC Women's Championship as they currently sit sixth in the table with 13 points and nine matches left to play.
