Charlotte Edwards injured her neck and did not bat as Southern Vipers beat Surrey Stars by six wickets in their Kia Super League opener in Southampton.

Edwards collided with team-mate Fi Morris while fielding, leaving Vipers openers Georgia Adams (41) and Suzie Bates (25) and former England player Lydia Greenway (13no) to overhaul Surrey's under-par 85-6.

Edwards, who took two catches before her nasty clash with Morris, seemed to have shaken off her injury by the end of the match, with the Vipers' official Twitter account posting a picture of her giving a thumbs up.

Stars spinner Alex Hartley took two wickets in two balls as Vipers slipped from 66-0 to 68-3, but Greenway kept her cool and hit the winning boundary off Laura Marsh from the second delivery of the 16th over.

Vipers left-arm seamer Natasha Farrant - who will be blogging for Sky Sports throughout the Kia Women's Super League - picked up two Surrey wickets, including that of England opener Tammy Beaumont (7).

Natalie Sciver (36) was one of only two Surrey players to make double figures, the England all-rounder sharing an unbroken seventh-wicket stand of 37 with Australian Rene Farrell (17no).

England skipper Heather Knight was on the winning side, leading Western Storm to a four-wicket victory over Lancashire Thunder at Taunton.

Knight's 23 from 25 balls then helped Storm reach their target with 27 balls to spare - the hosts not derailed by losing three wickets for one run in the middle overs as Deandra Dottin (3-8) impressed with the ball.
