Sir Dave Brailsford has described the crowds at the Tour de France as a "mob" that is “out of control” after Chris Froome had urine thrown at him during Saturday’s 14th stage.

Froome said the incident took place around 50km to 60km into the stage and that the offender had called him a “doper”.

There were also claims that fellow Team Sky riders Richie Porte and Luke Rowe were spat on during the stage.

The assaults came less than 24 hours after Porte revealed he had been punched by a spectator on stage 10.

Team Sky principal Brailsford told Sky News: "Chris had urine thrown at him from the crowd. The French crowd here is out of control. It's like a football mob that we ride through every day.

"You want to see it. We took videos, and maybe we should take images, of how mob culture is taking over what we have to drive through every day, and I think people will be shocked."

His performances so far have triggered accusations of doping and the 30-year-old believes aggression from fans towards Team Sky is being influenced by "irresponsible" reporting in the French media.
