British junior rider Lauren Dolan is "recovering well" after surgery on a serious leg injury following her World Championships crash.
Dolan spent her 18th birthday in a Norwegian hospital on Tuesday after crashing heavily in wet conditions during the junior women's individual time trial, where she still managed to finish just two minutes and 24 seconds behind the overall winner.
The cyclist hit a concrete barrier after flipping over the front handlebars of her bike, which had hit a drain cover midway through the 16.1km course.
"I would just like to say a huge thank you to all the staff at British Cycling, nurses and surgeons at Bergen hospital for fixing my wounds and to everyone for all your kind well wishes," Dolan, who lacerated her right thigh and knee in the accident, said on Twitter following an operation.
"I can't thank you enough. I'm recovering well from surgery in hospital so should be home soon!"
Dolan had to ditch her damaged time-trial bike for a road bike after the crash, but still managed to finish 27th overall.
Lauren Murphy will now replace Dolan in the junior women's road race on Friday.
