Wout Poels claimed victory for Team Sky in Wednesday's individual time-trial at Paris-Nice and moved into second place overall.

Poels completed the 18.4km course from La Fouillouse to Saint-Etienne in 25:33, some 11 seconds quicker than his nearest challenger, Movistar's Marc Soler.

With race leader Luis Leon Sanchez (Astana) only able to finish in seventh place, 28 seconds down on Poels, the Dutchman was able to close within 15 seconds of the lead with four hilly stages remaining.

Poels was the fourth Team Sky rider to top the standings during the day's racing, with Dylan van Baarle, David de la Cruz and defending champion Sergio Henao all posting the quickest time when they finished.

Henao's performance was enough to lift him into the top 10 overall, 48 seconds behind Sanchez.

Julian Alaphilippe (Quick-Step Floors) finished third on the day and is also third overall, a further 11 seconds behind Poels and on the same time as Soler.
