Charlie Austin tells us why he loves the darts!

QPR striker Charlie Austin is a long-time fans of the darts, so we quizzed him about his passion for the arrows!

So, why does Charlie #lovethedarts?

The first time you played?

I was probably about 12, just messing around in a local pub with my family. I used to love taking on some of the older guys and giving them a good game.

Do you play now?

Yeah, I still play every now and then, but probably not as much as I'd like to. It's a great sport to play, but I love watching the World Champs probably just as much!

Favourite darts tournament?

It's got to be the World Champs hasn't it? I love the atmosphere that's generated at Ally Pally, with Sky covering every day. It's brilliant to watch on TV and even better when you're there!

How do you enjoy watching the darts?

If I'm watching on the TV, it'll just be at home. I do try and go once a year though and I'm hoping to be there this year at some point.

Live World Darts Championship

Most memorable darts match you've seen and why?

Dennis Smith was local to us growing up. I think he lived in Hungerford. I remember him going all the way to the semi-finals of the PDC in 2000. He beat Cliff Lazarenko, John Part and John Lowe along the way, but lost 5-0 to the Power in the last four. I was gutted for him to be fair.

Favourite darts player and why?

I'm a big fan of Jackpot, Aidy Lewis. He's not the most popular with some, but I love his arrogance and the way he plays the game. He's a great entertainer and always worth keeping an eye on.

What fancy dress would you wear at the darts?

I'm not telling you as I might dress up this year! No, in all seriousness, I'd go as the Saw character.

What would be your walk on song of choice?

It would have to be Oasis - Wonderwall. That's the last song I listen to in the dressing room before I go out on a matchday. I'm sure it would get the crowd going too.

You can watch the PDC World Darts Championship live on Sky Sports between December 17-January 3.
