Adrian 'Jackpot' Lewis completed this 157 checkout on the way to beating Jelle Klaasen in round one of the World Grand Prix.

Defending champion Robert Thornton and James Wade both suffered first round defeats at the World Grand Prix in Dublin.

The Scotsman defeated Michael van Gerwen to win last year's trophy, but his title defence is already over following an opening defeat to Stephen Bunting, while sixth seed Wade also departed following a surprise loss to Terry Jenkins.

But second seed Gary Anderson, third seed Adrian Lewis and Raymond van Barneveld are all safely through after claiming victories on night one of the tournament at the Citywest Hotel.

Thornton seemed to be playing like a champion when he quickly compiled the first set, including a 125 on tops, but Bunting started the second set with a 105 checkout and soon forced a decider.

A fourth maximum kept the St Helens man in charge of the third set and he picked out double eight to end Thornton's reign.

After taking the first set, Wade lost his way against Jenkins, and 'The Bull' sparked a fightback with a 90 checkout on the bullseye and cleaned up 76 to level the match.

Even a 96 finish from Wade did not deter Jenkins, who forced a deciding leg on double four, and then hit tops to dump out 'The Machine.'

Anderson had no such problems as he conceded just one leg in a ruthless 2-0 win over Jamie Caven.

The world champion displayed his calm finishing as he hit checkouts of 112 and 124 against the outgunned Caven.

In the pick of the first round matches, Lewis was forced to dig deep for a 2-1 victory over Jelle Klaasen as both men engaged in an exciting encounter.

'Jackpot' wrapped up the opening set after a massive 157 checkout, only for Klaasen to hit back in the second set, taking it with a nerveless 105 finish.

Lewis would have the final word, hitting double 16 to set up a showdown with Van Barneveld in the next round.
