Peter Wright ended Phil Taylor's hopes at the Grand Slam of Darts with a brilliant display of finishing to seal a 16-10 quarter-final win.
'Snakebite' surged into a 5-0 lead at the interval and while 'The Power' fought back to close to within one leg on a couple of occasions, it was Wright's finishing that proved crucial as he booked a semi-final meeting with Michael van Gerwen.
Both men averaged in excess of 100 in a match of high quality, but it was Wright who advanced thanks to some spectacular finishing to go with a typically spectacular outfit, and the result meant he leapfrogged Taylor into No 3 in the rankings.
Wright took out multiple 100+ finishes through the middle part of the match to crush Taylor's hopes of a comeback and remain on course for a maiden major title himself having lost in three previous finals.
'Snakebite' sunk double eight to clinch the match and having lost to Van Gerwen in each of his three major finals, he will have to beat the Dutchman in the last four on Sunday afternoon to make that night's showpiece at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall.
Earlier in the night, Van Gerwen remained on course for title number 24 this season with a resounding 16-3 victory over Brendan Dolan.
The world number one was given few problems by the man from Northern Ireland and could even afford to miss 37 darts at doubles on his way to the win that sealed a place in the last four.
Saturday night will see the other two quarter-final matches played out with Raymond van Barneveld up against Gary Anderson and Chris Dobey up against James Wade.
