Gary Anderson claimed a second PDC title of 2017 after beating nine-dart hero Peter Wright 6-3 in the final of Players Championship Ten in Wigan on Sunday.

The world No 2 claimed the £10,000 top prize by dropping only 12 legs on his way to the win, and was dominant throughout the day at the Robin Park Tennis Centre.

Anderson beat Harry Robinson and Mickey Mansell respectively before former Players Championship Finals winner Paul Nicholson was blown away 6-0.

Anderson then gained revenge over Michael van Gerwen - who had claimed victory on his way to the Players Championship Nine title on Saturday - with a 6-4 victory as the pair met once again at the last 16 stage.

The Dutch ace had landed a nonchalant nine-dart finish as he won his second Players Championship of 2017 by defeating Robert Thornton 6-2 in Saturday's final.

The two-time world champion was at his ruthless best again in the quarter-finals where he whitewashed Wales' Jonny Clayton to claim a place in the last four.

Steve West was also powerless to resist the 46-year-old as Anderson secured a 6-2 win to move in to the final, where world No 3 Wright was unable to stop his opponent's rampant march to the title.

"It went very well today, I played well and am happy with the win," said Anderson.

"I had an average of about 110 against Michael yesterday so was really nice to get my revenge today. These aren't easy to win - there are 128 top players so you've got to play really well to win one."

Wright's run to the final ended a good seven days for the Scot after claiming his seventh title of the year at the German Darts Open last weekend and a Premier League win over Phil Taylor on Thursday to secure a play-off place.

Sunday's event will also be memorable for the 47-year-old as he hit a perfect nine-dart leg in his semi-final victory over Michael Smith.

Wright hit back-to-back maximums before taking out 141 on double 12 to fight back from 2-0 down and defeat Smith with the aid of his second career nine-dart finish.

Earlier in the day he overcame Mike de Decker, Jeffrey de Graaf, Wayne Jones, Jermaine Wattimena and Ryan Searle, as he took home £6,000 in prize money.

The next Players Championship weekend will take place on May 20-21 with a double-header in Milton Keynes.
