Cooper hails Pools riposte

Hartlepool boss Neale Cooper hailed his players' resolve after they bounced back from a 5-0 embarrassment at Wycombe to beat Bury 2-1.

Cooper had challenged his players for a positive response following their abject display at Adams Park and was delighted with what he saw as goals from Ritchie Humphreys and Adam Boyd sealed the points despite a late consolation from David Worrall. Cooper said: "It was really important we bounced back after the weekend. Days like Wycombe happen, but the important thing was we bounced back, even with a couple of injured players out. "We fought hard and had to dig in at the end because the boys were tired and they came at us with everything. I thought Bury were a good team so I'm very pleased with the outcome. "Even when they were coming at us we dropped deeper but kept our shape. I thought Scott Flinders was excellent and the midfield worked tirelessly all night. James Brown put in a hard shift up front and then Adam Boyd came on and scored. "I'm really pleased with the effort and there's a nice atmosphere in the changing room. We took a hiding on Saturday, but it was self-inflicted. They've gone out and done what I know they can do to come away with a good win."
