Tough decision for Knill

Handing Michael Poke his first start of the season was one of Alan Knill's toughest managerial decisions, the Torquay boss has revealed.

Poke had to play second fiddle to Martin Rice having returned from injury but, after the latter made 22 consecutive starts and a number of fine displays, Knill decided to reinstate former Southampton goalkeeper Poke for the 1-0 win over Southend. "It was a tough call, one of the most difficult I've had to make, and it was tough talking to Martin," he told the Western Morning News. "He has been fantastic for me, but sometimes you have to make these calls as a manager. "As always, Martin took it as he should have taken it - he wasn't happy, but he said he would support Michael as ever. He is a really good person to have around the club. "Fortunately for me, we had an important clean sheet and it's worked out well."
