Burton Albion defender Zander Diamond has joined Northampton on loan until the end of the season.

The 28-year-old former Aberdeen and Oldham centre-back has found his first-team opportunities at the Pirelli Stadium limited so far this year, making just 13 appearances and scoring once in all competitions. Ian Sharps and Shane Cansdell-Sherriff are the preferred centre-back pairing at Burton, but Brewers manager Gary Rowett will hold a 24-hour recall option on Diamond should he be needed. Rowett said: "It's important to stress he hasn't done anything wrong, he's been a brilliant pro and has never complained once about not playing. "He also never tried to instigate a move away. "Players want to play football and we want to keep them all here, but every now and then you've got to let people go out and do what they want to do." Diamond could make his Cobblers debut in Saturday's League Two clash against Hartlepool at Sixfields.
