Cheltenham Town have signed former Reading and Wycombe defender Alan Bennett on a one-year deal.

Bennett was released by Wycombe at the end of last season and the centre-back can count Reading, Southampton and Brentford among his former employers. He has also been capped by the Republic of Ireland on two occasions. Robins boss Mark Yates highlighted Bennett's experience as a key reason behind bringing the 29-year-old to the Abbey Business Stadium. "He's competitive, he's a leader and a winner. He won promotion with both Brentford and Wycombe and he's the sort of strong character that we've been after for a while," said Yates. "Alan is an old fashioned centre-back who reads the game well and will compliment the players we already have."
