Dagenham & Redbridge leading goalscorer Sam Williams is set to miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.

Williams on Monday went to see a specialist, who ruled the Daggers striker has not just damaged his cartilage, as already discovered, but also sustained a serious ligament problem as well. The 24-year-old, who will undergo surgery as soon as possible, now faces at least a six-month recovery programme as he looks to get back to full fitness, as a pose to around six to eight weeks had he only been nursing cartilage damage. Williams picked up the injury in the latter stages of the club's 2-1 League Two victory over Crewe 10 days ago. He had bagged his third goal in 12 appearances just minutes earlier, having joined the club in the summer on a two-year deal following his release by Yeovil.
