Crewe boss chasing defender

Crewe manager Steve Davis wants to boost his squad by acquiring a left-back before Thursday's loan deadline.

Davis has been using 21-year-old Matt Tootle in that position this season, but is keen to add a left-footed player to improve the side's balance. He told the Railwaymen's official website: "I would like to bring in a left-footed full-back if I can before the deadline. I just think it would give us a better balance on that side of the pitch. "There is a possibility on one but another has decided to go to a League One club. Neil (Baker, assistant manager) has spoken to a manager concerning the one we want and it is encouraging. "There are a lot of factors as usual, especially if there are clubs from higher leagues interested."
