Simpson eyes Wembley appearance

Robbie Simpson wants to put last season's Wembley heartache behind him by helping Oldham to the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final.

Simpson, whose 25-yard stunner opened the scoring before Latics went on to lose 5-1 to Liverpool in the FA Cup last week, has been ruled out of this weekend's League One clash with Huddersfield due to the terms of his loan from the Galpharm Stadium. The 26-year-old forward's attentions have already turned towards next Tuesday's northern final first leg against Chesterfield in a competition where he helped Brentford to the final last year before an ankle injury ruled him out of the showpiece showdown with Carlisle. "That was unfortunate and, ultimately, while I was part of the squad that day, I didn't really get that buzz because I knew I wasn't going to be playing," Simpson told the Manchester Evening News. "To step out at Wembley is everyone's dream and so, to be this close and to have this opportunity is fantastic. "We said after the game at Liverpool that it was a brilliant experience and that we hoped we could give the fans another day out. "Wembley would be massive financially for the club and the fans have now had a taste of the big games."
