U's turn down Constable bid

Oxford boss Chris Wilder has confirmed they have rejected a bid from League Two rivals Swindon for striker James Constable.

Wilder revealed the club have received an offer from the Robins, which is believed to be a six-figure sum, and admitted he was not surprised by the approach. Constable has netted nine times for Oxford this term and has an admirer in Swindon boss Paolo Di Canio, but Wilder expects the forward to be fully focused for the clash with Crewe this weekend. "Yes there has been a firm bid and we have turned it down," he told BBC Radio Oxford. "I've spoken to Beano (Constable) this morning (Thursday) and told him to get his head down. "We're in a good situation in the league and we need to focus on a big game versus Crewe on Saturday."
