Essam out to seal Gills deal

Connor Essam is determined to earn a new contract at Gillingham and continue his progress at Priestfield.

The 19-year-old centre-back was recalled from a loan spell at Dartford and handed his Gills debut in February, coming off the bench in a 2-1 home defeat to Southend. Essam has not looked back since, starting 11 of the following 12 games. And, with his current contract set to expire in the summer, the teenager is determined to prolong his stay with the Kent club having risen through the ranks. "I would love to stay here, it's a good club and I've been here since I was 10 years old," he told Gillingham's official website. "I've been out watching the games since I was little and you always think 'I want to play for that team', so we will see what happens. "Nothing has been sorted but I'm not really concentrating on that, it's nothing to be with me. I'm just enjoying playing and obviously winning games."
