Dickov pleased with Bouzanis

Dean Bouzanis is providing a welcome goalkeeping selection headache for next season according to Oldham boss Paul Dickov.

Former Liverpool trainee Bouzanis, 21, has had to bide his time since moving to Boundary Park on a free transfer in November, but was called upon when Latics number one Alex Cisak suffered a shoulder injury during last month's defeat to Leyton Orient. Since then Bouzanis has started six consecutive matches and Dickov is relishing a battle for selection with 22-year-old Cisak. "A lot of credit goes to Dean because he's not played a lot of football this season," said the Boundary Park chief. "We know Dean is a good keeper and the experience he's had in getting these games will be great for us and great for him. "He's showed calmness, his kicking has been very good and we've said all along Dean is a talented boy. It's added competition for that position because, as well as Alex has done, Dean will be pushing him. "I speak to (goalkeeping coach) Eric Steele at Man United a lot and they don't expect the young goalkeepers they've got there to reach their peak until 28 or 30. When you think we've got goalkeepers on the books who are 21 and 22 playing in the first team and performing well it bodes well for the future."
