Carlisle's new signing Mike Edwards says he aims to help his new club achieve promotion to the Championship next season.

The 32-year-old central defender became manager Greg Abbott's first summer signing on Monday when he put pen to paper on a two-year deal after turning down a new contract at Notts County. "I'd been offered a new deal at Notts County, but once I'd sat down and talked to Greg the draw was for me to come here. "It's a nice area up here, so that made the decision easier, but for me it's based more from a playing point of view. I did have a few other clubs interested, but this was the one place which really stood out. "I want to come here and help the team get promoted. This club has had a little bit of success over the last few seasons and it's something players look at. "I also know from watching Carlisle and from playing against them that the way they play football really appeals to me. Hopefully I can add to that and we can have some more good times."
