Knill rules out Robins striker

Scunthorpe manager Alan Knill has dropped his interest in Swindon striker Alan Connell, saying the club needs a different type of forward.

Knill confirmed he had spoken with Connell's agent after the 29-year-old former Grimsby forward had been transfer-listed by Swindon despite being their top scorer last season with 11 goals. "He's a player we looked at," Knill told the club's official website. "We spoke to his agent, somebody I know really well, and he offered Alan. "But at the time we were in the process of completing a deal for Mike Grella, so that dampened our interest. "If I'm honest he's very similar to what we already have here. At the moment we're looking for a different type of striker to what we have already got." Knill added he was currently running the rule over four unnamed trialists at the club - a left-back, right-back, centre-half and winger - after the squad returned for their first week of pre-season training.
