Blades looking to strengthen

Sheffield United chairman Kevin McCabe has confirmed the promotion hopefuls will strengthen before the transfer deadline.

The Blades have dropped out of the automatic promotion places after taking only two points from their last four league matches, but although they trail top two Tranmere and Doncaster by eight points, McCabe is confident they can put a disappointing January behind them. "I expect us, like the fans do, to be at the top, but I'm sure we will get there in the next three months or so," McCabe told the club's official website. "Unfortunately we have been cursed with injuries to several key players and that has been frustrating for everyone connected with the club. "We aren't kidding ourselves though, we know we need to get promoted this season and that is why we are going to recruit before Thursday's deadline." The club are hoping to keep hold of leading goalscorer Nick Blackman after receiving an offer from Crystal Palace for the 14-goal striker, while manager Danny Wilson is hoping to add at least two new players to his squad.
