Smalley extends loan deal

Oldham striker Deane Smalley has extended his loan at League Two leaders Chesterfield until the end of the season.

Latics boss Paul Dickov insists Smalley will benefit from playing regularly rather than returning to Boundary Park and playing a bit-part role. He said: "The extension to the loan does not mean Deane has no future here. The way we are playing at the moment, and the forward players we have, it would be silly to bring him back if he were not to play games. "He is starting games at Chesterfield and has got his confidence back. Everybody knows what Deane is capable of doing from two or three years ago, and we want to get him back to where he was. "It is all about furthering his education, and the best way of doing that is to be playing games and score more goals and then hopefully we can sit down with him in the summer."
