Allen delight at Bishop deal

Martin Allen has admitted to changing a contract offer to Neal Bishop to ensure he did not move to the Championship.

The midfielder appeared over 50 times for Notts County this season and a two-year deal offered six months ago was still not signed after the climax to the League One season, but he has now agreed to the fresh terms. "I'm delighted he has signed a new deal because he has been superb since I've been at the club and he was playing with an injury towards the end of the season," Allen told the Nottingham Post. "I was aware that he had not signed a contract that had been on the table for about six months, so I changed various little bits of it, which the chairman has given me authority to do. "I thought he could play higher from what I saw in his performances. "If we didn't sort his future out pretty quickly I wouldn't have been surprised if some Championship clubs had made offers for him and I didn't want to lose him. I don't want to lose any of our best players."
