New Carlisle recruit Jon-Paul McGovern revealed boss Greg Abbott's passion persuaded him to move to Brunton Park.

The 30-year-old midfielder has signed a two-year deal with the League One club after he was released from his contract at Swindon. McGovern joined Swindon from MK Dons on deadline day in August 2007 and made over 150 appearances, scoring eight goals, for the Robins. He said of his move to Carlisle: "I didn't know how long the club had been interested in me but once I found out, I was keen to meet up with the manager. "I was really impressed with what he had to say, his passion for the game and the fact that he wants his teams to play good passing football. "I can't wait to get out there and show the fans what I am capable of."
