Antony Sweeney admits he faced a "big decision" over his future but Hartlepool's stability convinced him to stay.

The midfielder rose through the ranks at Victoria Park and enjoyed his 10th successive season with the club last term, netting 14 goals and contributing with a series of impressive displays. That led to speculation he may depart for a bigger club but, with his contract due to expire, Sweeney opted to pen fresh terms and commit his future to the Pools. "I turn 28 this season so yes, it was a big decision for me," he told the Sunderland Echo. "I've been here all of my career and have loved every minute of it. The fans have been magnificent and the support this year is going to be better than ever. "The owners' backing means we're a club in good shape. Sometimes the grass can be greener on the other side, but this is a good, stable club and they gave me a good offer which I was happy to sign."
