Abbott allays Murphy fear

Carlisle defender Peter Murphy has given the club an early boost by declaring himself fit for the start of the season.

The 30-year-old gave manager Greg Abbott a scare when he limped out of the club's final pre-season friendly with a back injury. But he has trained this week and is ready to take his place against Notts County on Saturday. "Murph and Craig (Curran, dead leg) have both trained and came through it no problem," Abbott told the News and Star. "Craig trained like a lunatic, as usual, while Murph was a bit more considered. "There's no issue with Murph. It was just something he picked up in the game. Sometimes your back can be slightly out of line if you sit in a certain way. Whatever it was he has trained fine and is looking in good shape like the rest of the players." Striker Paddy Madden had an operation on his broken foot on Tuesday and misses the first three months of the season.
