Waddock: There's more to come

Wycombe boss Gary Waddock believes there is more to come from his side after watching them thrash Hartlepool 5-0 at Adams Park.

Paul Hayes had a debut to remember with a goal in each half for Wanderers while Stuart Beavon's double increased his tally to 16 for the season. Gary Doherty, who like Hayes is on loan from Charlton, also scored in the rout. Waddock handed debuts to four new players, including Hayes and Doherty, and it paid dividends as they climbed off the foot of the League One table. "It was an excellent performance by everyone. The new lads have come in and given everyone a lift and you saw the quality they bring to the group," said Waddock. "It was a fantastic all-round team performance by every single member of that group. Sometimes it does take time for new signings to settle in and gel but if you've got good players coming into your group, more often than not you get good performances. "They showed that but the other players also stepped up to the mark when we needed them to and we got the result we deserved. It has to be the best all-round display in my time at Wycombe, because of the situation we're in. "The pleasing thing is we kept a clean sheet and the players needed to respond after the disappointing period that we've had and they certainly did that. The key is to get out at the right time and if we show the same commitment they showed here we give ourselves a chance."
