Stewart nearing Magpies deal

Notts County manager Keith Curle is hopeful of finalising a deal with defender Damion Stewart on Monday.

The 32-year-old Jamaican, who played over 150 games in a four-year spell at QPR, is a free agent after his deal with Bristol City was terminated by mutual consent. Stewart made 19 appearances and scored two goals in a loan spell at Meadow Lane at the end of last season and has been training with the club in recent weeks. Curle told Magpie Player: "Damion's a typical Jamaican and things get done in his time, he's not one to rush. He's a quality worth waiting for and there's an issue that we hope can be resolved on Monday morning." The County boss also revealed that he is hoping to bring another striker to the League One outfit, adding: "I've spoken to one player that would be absolutely excellent for this football club. "I'm not saying he's an old-fashioned centre-forward but he plays that role very well. He's got goals in him and he's got frustrations of where he is at the minute. It's just a case of whether I'm able to do the wheeling and dealing that enables him to come."
