Hughes' headache goes on

Hartlepool head coach John Hughes witnessed another bad day at the office as his side were defeated 2-0 at home by MK Dons.

Pools remain eight points short of League One safety and have not scored in seven games. They had Simon Walton sent off and were well beaten through goals from Patrick Bamford and Dean Bowditch. Hughes, whose side mustered a single shot of note when Peter Hartley fired against a post late on, said: "First-half performance wasn't bad, we played some nice stuff. But we conceded a real poor first goal and a sending-off at the start of the half left us chasing uphill. "It was a real bad day for us. We lost three players through injury. "Are we goal shy? Yes, we need a couple of special people to unlock the door, play that pass, score a goal. "It's not through a lack of commitment. Sometimes you need a bit more."
