Waggott: Coventry have options

Coventry boss Steven Pressley has plenty of options in the transfer market, according to development director Steve Waggott.

Waggott has declared himself satisfied with the work done during the summer window, a period which City spent mostly under a transfer embargo before being given clearance to sign players under the watchful eye of the Football League from August 7. The Sky Blues have kept hold of key assets such as Leon Clarke, Carl Baker and Callum Wilson, while striker Mathieu Manset and centre-back Andy Webster have arrived under 'one in, one out' agreements. And the added departures of Gary McSheffrey, Steven Jennings, Kevin Malaga, William Edjenguele and Chris Dunn have now put Pressley in a solid position. Waggott told the club's official website: "With five more players leaving since the arrival of Andy and Mathieu, that gives us fresh new options in the market as the Football League has given us special dispensation to bring players in when others leave. "We could go for five or, at the other end of the spectrum, we could go for just one as long as his wages amounted to no more than 75 per cent of the combined wages of those players who have gone. "Also, we also have an option to recycle some of the money we have saved back into the current playing squad and offer new deals to some of our younger players who have impressed this season. "That's why it was, in my opinion, a good window because we have given ourselves a platform to build on and have a range of options to further improve the squad that Steven and his team have put together." Waggott also confirmed Coventry came very close to adding a signing prior to the close of the window on Monday night - believed to be a winger from a Championship club - and may revisit it when the loan market reopens for business.
