Oldham assistant manager Paul Murray did not pull any punches after his side's poor second-half display in a 1-0 defeat at Port Vale.
Vale's on-loan Fulham defender Jack Grimmer settled a tight encounter when he guided in a near post header from substitute Chris Shuker's 52nd-minute corner as the Latics slipped to 17th place. Murray said: "We've got to go back to the drawing board and analyse what we are doing. "We are doing everything we can as staff and the players are training well, but it's just not happening out on the field. "We've got a soft underbelly and teams know they are going to get something from us. We've got to put that right and do so quickly. "There were times in the first-half where we played some good stuff and were nearly there, but we let ourselves down with either the final pass or poor finishing. "We've got to get some points on the board and we've got to do it by hook or by crook. "We are trying to bring in new players to help us, but the ones already here know they can perform a lot better than they did in the second half." Oldham, who were the brighter side in the first-half and squandered chances to take the lead, were poor in the second period and Vale could afford the luxury of having a Jennison Myrie-Williams penalty brilliantly saved by Mark Oxley.
